FAQ

Are you a Doctor?

No. I am not a Doctor.

You should speak with your general practitioner regarding any queries or concerns you have regarding medical advice.

How do I make a booking?

Email reception ‘contact@robjackson.com.au’ or use the Contact form on this website

Is it compulsory to get blood work?

The short answer is ‘No’

You may have questions or issues that do not require any blood work in order for me to provide you with assistance.

Examples of consults that did not require bloodwork:

  • Independent audit of training program
  • Client seeking advice on who to see for a particular orthopaedic issue
  • Nutritional education/plan for someone looking to lose significant body fat
  • Triage of client’s multiple health issues and provided systematic plan of action via appropriate specialist referrals
  • Independent audit of a physique athlete’s off-season plan including training, nutrition, pharmaceutical interventions

All of these consults required no prior or ongoing blood work to be completed.

If it is determined that blood work is warranted, I can advise you on what exact pathology to complete and results can be discussed in future consultation

When would blood work be suggested?

Completing bloodwork is the most comprehensive way to ‘look under the hood’ and see what is happening at a physiological level when looking to address issues related to any of the following:

  • Energy / Fatigue
  • Body Composition
  • Physical Performance
  • Recovery
  • Libido/Sexual Function
  • Cardiovascular Risk factors
  • Glucose/Insulin Management
  • Genetic Mapping / Predispositions
  • Overall Health Assessment

What blood work do I need to get?

If you do not have a recent (within 6months) metabolic and hormonal panel I recommend completing this prior to our consultation.

For those in Australia – iMedical have fast, accessible, private pathology with Sports BB2+ Thyroid + hbA1C the simplest ‘catch-all’

For those overseas or looking to have their GP prescribe blood work, here is a list of panels worth completing:

  • FBE + Electrolytes
  • LFT
  • Kidney Panel
  • Lipid Panel inc. HDL/LDL/Apo-Lipoprotein A/B
  • Complete Iron Panel
  • TSH/T3/T4
  • DHEA-S
  • 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D
  • Fasting Insulin
  • Cortisol
  • hbA1C
  • Progesterone
  • Prolactin
  • CRP
  • Testosterone
  • Free Testosterone
  • Estradiol
  • SHBG
  • IGF-1
  • PSA
  • DHT

Blood work should be performed:

  • Fasted (no food from 10pm the night before)
  • Blood drawn first thing in the morning (ideally you are first patient at the pathology lab when doors open).

Consume water as usual in the morning to stay hydrated but be aware not to chew gum or brush teeth as this can impact the test results. Once blood draw is complete you can eat/drink as per normal.

How often do I need to get blood work?

Blood work is typically completed every 2-6months although this can vary greatly based off your individual circumstances.

Each client is provided with a specific guideline on the What, When and Why of any blood work recommendations.

What if I need to speak with you urgently?

If you have a medical emergency, your first point of call should absolutely be the closest hospital.

Should you need to speak with me urgently, I am available outside of hours for all consult lengths.

These consults are charged with an additional loading with prices below:

60min = $750

30min = $375

10min = $225

What if I want to refer someone to you?

Simply refer them to this page so they have an understanding of the services offered and they can use the Contact page to make a booking enquiry.

What do I need to prepare for my consult?

There are a few things you can do to maximise your consult:

  • Complete any blood work with enough time to have sent me the results prior to scheduled consult
  • Have a pen/paper or whatever required to take down notes as I do not send followup emails and it’s easy to forget key details
  • Prepare a list of any questions you may have in order of importance so that if time runs out, we’ve addressed key issues first
  • Be conscious of your allotted time as although there are small gaps to allow for slight overtime, other people will be waiting
  • Be available, ready to go, to take the call at your scheduled consult time so as not to miss your appointment

If you want someone to get the best out of you and care for you while doing it, Jacko is definitely the guy.

Paul RoosAFL Premiership Coach and Hall of Famer

Rob Jackson is a major reason why I was able to make a successful return to the AFL after undergoing an ACL reconstruction at age 32. Over a 12 month period we spent countless hours in the gym, where Rob’s attention to detail and passion to help me achieve my goal was unrelenting. Rob’s ability to support, motivate and keep variety in the training program were also major reasons why I enjoyed working with him so much.

Lenny HayesNorm Smith Medalist and 4x All Australian

I have struggled with a degenerative ankle for the past 12 years where now I can’t run anymore. Rob's lateral thinking and expertise has helped me maintain a healthy lifestyle with alternate training methods post my career. Rob genuinely cares about the athletes he works with and continues to check in with me regularly, many years post my career. Jacko is not only a fantastic S&C coach who taught me what elite standards looked like as a professional athlete, but a great person away from football.

Sam BleaseRetired AFL Player

Following the 2009 grand final I found myself struggling for motivation in the off season. Despite being 'old' in football terms and battling a degenerative knee I entered season 2010 in career best condition due to Rob's ability to alter my thinking and attitude towards weight training. I believe the time I have spent working with Rob has allowed me to maintain a consistently elite standard at an age where most footballers are in rapid decline.

Nick Riewoldt5x All Australian and Captain St Kilda Football Club x11 years

I highly recommend Rob to anyone looking to challenge themselves & improve their strength, power, fitness & all round wellbeing. You'll be impressed with the results!
