These programs provide conditioning options that do not rely on running and therefore lower mechanical stress. This can be used within a structured training cycle to increase the total metabolic demands whilst not having to increase the total contacts.

It is important to remember that although you can train the same energy systems using these modalities –  the biomechanics, movement patterns, muscles contraction types, speed and intensity will greatly differ from running based sports and therefore cannot fulfil all of your conditioning requirements.

Put simply, if you want to play a sport that involves running, you’ll have to do some training that involves running.
